“We Felt Like We Still Wanted To End This Year as Husband & Wife, So We Did."

Updated: May 18, 2021

In the year of 2020, in which many of us were quarantined in small quarters, we got to know our loved ones better than ever. So we have to applaud any couples who have emerged from this period with the fortitude and love to get married!

After delaying their nuptials due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tom Payne and his longtime love Jennifer Akerman tied the knot in December of 2020. Payne and Akerman had originally planned to wed in April of 2020, but due to the coronavirus crisis, the pair had to postpone their marriage. Payne and Jennifer had been dating since 2013 and became engaged in November 2018.

Jennifer Akerman shared the wedding news on Dec. 22 with an Instagram photo of the pair.

She wrote:

"Last night me and the love of my life got married !!! ❤️❤️❤️ After having to cancel our wedding back in April and not knowing how long the world will be under lockdown, we felt like we still wanted to end this year as husband and wife, so we did 😍😍 I love you so much @thetpayne and I’m so excited to spend the rest of my life with you xxxx"

Payne, 38, explained, “I got married on my birthday on the 21st of December. We finished shooting before Christmas and Jennifer was just like, ‘Let’s just do it.’ We delayed it from April because we were going to have 150 people and all this kind of stuff. Obviously, that fell by the wayside.”

Instead? They married at home, in front of their fireplace. They rejoiced in their home, making pizzas and sipping champagne. Are you kidding?! How blissful and warm does that sound?

Sharing some sweet details, Payne said, “By the way, there’s no way we could have done it in front of 150 people. Jennifer couldn’t say her vows, I had to say it. She gave me the piece of paper.”

SO CUTE. If your love saps like us? You might be tearing up right now. “Today there was going to be a wedding in New York,” Payne wrote on Instagram on their previous wedding date. “One of many I’m sure. Out of all the things that have changed a wedding is something that can wait. We have each other and that is more than enough. Love to everyone out there. Love is all we have. It’s enough for me. ❤️” Akerman shared a similar post on that day, writing,

“Today, at this very moment, I was suppose walk down the aisle and marry the man of my dreams. Sadly, I won’t get the chance to do that today. A beautiful wedding dress is hanging in an empty apartment in New York City, guests have canceled their flights and no one will be on the dance floor.”
But I’m ok, and thankful that we, all of our guests and hopefully who ever is reading this, are still healthy and alive,” she continued. “So, instead of eating a three course meal and partying the night away we will still celebrate our love by enjoying our beautiful house together, making pizza and drinking champagne in the hot tub. How could I ever complain or be sad when I have a man who makes me the happiest girl in the world. And, what’s another year of waiting when we’ve got a lifetime”

Some of our favorite photographs of the sweethearts.
